Hey folks, my passenger side window is stuck half way. Pressing the switch in either direction does nothing (tried both driver and passenger door switch), driver window is working fine.

Did I read right that it's only likely to be a fuse issue if both windows don't respond? Oh well, at least it's not meant to rain tonight...

Passenger side window cut switch pressed? It’s under the 2 switches on the driver’s door IIRC.

As the depth of my pockets don't extend to an ND I'm going to assume that the window mech is at least similar to a Mk 2.5. (see pic)

The motor drives a drum which winds one cable while unwinding the other. This drum is nylon and has grooves for the cables to locate in.

When a cable breaks it springs back and twists itself up in the drum and jams, and basically self destructs.

Step one, check fuse.

Step two, see if you can lift the glass by hand. My cable drum jammed with the window 75mm down so I could lift the glass back to the top.

Step three, remove the door card and give the cables a tug to see if one is broken.

If it needs a new mech be prepared to loose some blood as it gets a bit tight for space in there.

s/h mech from scrappy was still £50, but it worked.

This, most likely answer.

This, most likely answer.

...apart from the fact that the button is in fact above the window switches, but below the mirror switch.

Embarassed - yet completely relived - to say that was it!

I was chatting to my friend outside the car at the time so I've hit the button while I was distracted. Had forgotten it even existed.

Thanks!
