Thanks Saz9961. I've pretty much made my mind up on the one from Andrew. Just gotta work out how to get it down. I will reach out to him.

Would you take the plunge in my position?

I would have no issues buying off Andrew. Hopefully you have got tons of extra photos.

Ultimately, only you can decide whether you want it. White cars can look pretty bleak looking sitting in a yard, but I see them as a bit of a blank canvas, depending on what you intend to do.

You should check on insurance on this model, to make sure it does meet your expectations.

Getting it back; there are delivery services. The average cost from Scotland might be between £200-300

Andrew is pretty much just over the Border. Not exactly Inverness!

Easy train form Essex, wee coach ride to his premises...maybe a cab to finish it.

Would not be surprised if he nipped along to collect you.

Have dealt with him for several years.....very honest and frank.

You'll be safe.

Fair enough, ive just got to work out a way of getting to scotland or getting the car to essex.

Just a couple of things to say:-

I don't think the car from Andrew is in its prep'd state (i.e. I would expect him to smarten it up). I'm sure he would also deal with any issues you were unhappy with.

If I were you I would have that conversation with him and get a full appraisal of the condition over the phone. If acceptable arrange a flight (when the car is ready).

Fly up...enjoy a great drive back.

Looks a good honest car, spot welds visible on the rear arches and no concerns on the MOT history, corrosion-wise.

I'd be tempted to look into a one-way hire car if you decide to go and buy. I did this a few years ago when I went to Barnstaple to pick up a vehicle; took a few hours but more convenient than waiting around at airports and having to stick to flight times etc.

Hi Guys,

I have received these additional photos of the underside of the cars. Just wanted to reach out to you guys who are far more experienced than me on whether there was anything that stands out?

Thanks,

Si

Hopefully this will work this time

Andrew is going to be sending across some pictures of the exterior and interior later today as well.

What do you guys think?

The first photo of the lower rear sill looks very promising - no issues there as far as I can see.

For peace of mind, get some pics of front chassis rails (steering to full lock and then photos from in front of wheel showing upper rail where ARB mounts to).  By no means definitive, but a very good clue as to the overall state of the rails.

But as it's Andrew, they will either be solid - or he'll tell you otherwise.

Pretty much an "Andrew" car, albeit already through a UK owner.

From what I can see as VRB can chassis wise, it's simply needing cleaned and rot-proofed.

I doubt very much there will be chassis rail rot, but again, if you buy the thing I'd refer to the numerous threads in various forums on "how-to's" to keep tham that way.

I do not know if the Mk2 rails are single skin as opposed to laminated as Mk2.5s though.

Apart from that, some dedicated detailing...luvvly jubbly.

Drive down to MX5 Restorer in Pevensey.

Train back.

The guys know their stuff and they are reasonably priced.
