Hi

I've just been to see an early 1990 UK car which I might buy.

It's been off the road for 2 years.

There is a problem with the engine cutting out.  It fires up fine and runs for about a minute before cutting out. If you try to restart it will cut out almost immediately.

Any thoughts?

Could it be a fuel pump or fuel pump relay?

Thanks

Tom

Blocked fuel filter maybe? The one under the car or the one on the bottom of the fuel pump.
Put a link between FP and ground in the diagnostic port, turn the ignition on and listen for fuel being pumped round. If you feel brave you could remove the pipe to the fuel rail, fit another pipe down to a container outside the car and check the flow.
Good luck

I had similar symptoms with the fuel injector relay. It sits in the main fuse box, and the one I took out was completely rusted inside, so possibly its location exposes it to the elements.

Check the air flow meter flap is moving freely.
