The government has brought out a new car MOT reminder service, see the link below.

I tried it for my MX5 and it seems to have worked OK.  It should be a very useful service.

After signing up I received an email saying "You’ll get an annual reminder a month before your MOT is due, and again 2 weeks later if you don’t have your MOT yet".

https://www.reminders.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/

The web site is still in test mode so may change a bit before being made final.

Nice find - in my opinion an MOT reminder service should have been put in place/faciliated at the first opportunity.

How many people are driving around genuinely unaware that their MOT has expired.

I have written notes in my diary for years but with 4+ vehicles still almost caught out a couple of times.

Perfect, thanks. Think they did have a text based one but that cost money. Something from the government free? Whatever next.

Here in N.Ireland we get an MOT reminder by post approx 6 weeks before test is due, have received these reminders for many years now, I take it then mainland UK doesn't get these by post. Cost of an MOT is £30.50

Wasn't aware of this facility? Subscribed and put both our cars on the system. The NC is due MOT on the 7th October so I should get a reminder on the 8th September as that is the earliest date for its test? I've received both the activation emails and confirmation of registrations straight away so no reason why this won't work? I also "look" after 3 other family cars so will get them registered too

many thanks for the heads up

Just signed up all our cars. The site even accepts my 2 year old car so it will remind me when its 1st MOT is due. Most useful.

Won't go so far as to say driving around - but I tried to register only to find that mine had expired a few days before!

I'm normally well on the ball with such things, it was only when I got the MOT out to double check the details that I realised!

So thankyou OP for posting this and preventing me driving around without one, because I would have done!
