Has anyone removed the ABS brakes from an early Eunos 1600 Roadster. I need the front passenger sensor. Unfortunately the only sensors available are post 93 sensors fitted to 1800 cars. These have a different resistance to the early sensors fitted to 1600 cars. The resistance of my sensors are just less than 1000 Ohms. The later sensors have a resistance of about 1500 Ohms so are easily identified. I suspect I shall have to fit the whole upright as the sensors are impossible to remove. Would be great if someone has a sensor as I don't want to remove the ABS system to pass the next MOT.

We probably have uprights here with sensor attached but how do I identify the early type?

You would have to measure the resistance of the sensor. Just connect a meter across the contacts in the plug. The early sensors are about 1000 Ohms. The later ones about 1500 Ohms. My 3 good sensors are all 983 Ohms. Let me know if you have any success.

Thanks

Not sure, can you check the type of bracket on the cable itself. Looks like there are different brackets which would help me identify as we have dozens and I can't check every one

My bracket curves round at the top where it is fixed to the inner wheelarch. Curved section is about 15cm long (from memory). I think the later Mk2 has a short bracket fixed to the wheelarch. The sensor resistance is the key. Abot 1000 Ohms is right.

Thanks

Hi. Unfortunately sensors are not the same. Look the same. Can only tell by measuring resistance. Mine is pre 93 1.6 so about 1000 ohms. Later are about 1500 ohms. Mine is for passenger front. Hope you have one. Not even Mazda stock them now. Mx5 parts had to give me my money back. Their website is incorrect although the part they sent me is correctly labelled by Mazda as 93 on. Fingers crossed one of your sensors fits. If not any advice on removing abs.

These are pattern parts listed for 1992 Miatas

But maybe worth checking with miataforum; more early ABS cars there. Normally, with part numbers, if its just the suffix changed, its backward compatible. This might be an exception. Rockauto are pretty good delivering to the UK.

If removing the ABS, again, check with the Americans, as they need to remove ABS for SpecMiata etc. Hint of what is needed here:

"Keith" might be more responsive about what to do, as he works for Flyin' Miata. So the options are new master cylinder and replace all the lines except that fiddly line at the back, or do some modification to the existing lines, that no doubt a MOT inspector will hate. Fitting a new master cylinder might be cheaper than trying to track down the unicorn early ABS sensors. Or taking a risk on fairly pricey pattern parts.

I have checked all the ones we have that match the photo and all are 1500 or some are 1700. Nothing around 1000
