I wish to replace the front covers, standard size brakes. Are they available new and where from?

MX5 Parts list the rear covers and the front for the larger brake option but not for the standard front which they say are no longer available. I have also read that they are not available from Mazda, but have not asked yet.

Any help much appreciated.

The nearside fronts for the Mk2 and Mk2.5 have been unavailable for years but the offside fronts for the Mk2 and Mk2.5 are available still. A few Mk2's I have looked at have the nearside in worse condition than the offside!!!

The Mazda parts system shows a parts number for both sides.

You can still purchase all the covers for the big brake cars as you have noticed.

The fronts for the Mk1 are older, therefore not a big surprise if they are no longer available. The rears are available!

The parts still show up on the Mazda parts list but obviously the Dealer parts department will have a more detailed screen which you know have to phone up a dealer and ask the question as their screen will have an order function on it rather than just a listing and price.

With the remanufacture of parts in Japan, maybe Mazda would makes these parts available again unless the remanufacture operation is for a certain number of Japanese cars only. Which may be the case

I had thought of buying a large brake nearside cover for my MK2 and check if that part can be adjusted to fit, not an exact fit but worth a punt to see if it can be done.

A phone call to the dealer is in order, unless you can find mint secondhand ones.

Thanks for your thoughts Eddie.

Strange that MX5 Parts still list the Mk1 parts with a price etc, just unavailable, as you say perhaps Japan Mazda might just remanufacture.

In the mean while if I want them to look like new I will need the wire brush and plenty of patience, a job best left for the warmer weather me thinks.
