I Think you will find the original statement and later statements about something being different this year are aimed at the O/C and not the N.E.C.

Exactly my thoughts, every year we have the organisers car who is on the committee, the rest of the cars last year were from Eastern Region and also the committee, something different this year maybe, who knows, I have been trying to find out but it's all hush hush. It was promised to be displayed on here but as yet nothing.

Unless I am mistaken, this thread is about purchasing tickets at a discount to the NEC Classxic Car event in November. People are of course free not to purchase a ticket, if this show is not for them.

[/quote]

The heading states Classic Motor Show, The NEC Birmingham so I would presume its not just about tickets Smile

Going back to cars on the stand, may I add as an AC at the AGM/AC meeting at the weekend I asked for details on cars on the stand, just out of interest and the reply I got was a sarky "an MX-5" and that was from a commttee member.......

To be fair, I don't tend to spend much time at the OC stand; I see its purpose mainly in promoting the club to those who are not members, or to promote the car, not to be mobbed full of "mates". I saw all the MX5s (1100+ of them) I needed to see at the national rally. At this show, there is precious little space for most of the clubs. As for the cars on the stand; I'm happy for the perogative to rest entirely with those who man the stand the weekend. I'll probably be less interested if the cars displayed were the sames that were a feature at the rally.

If I was going to critique the cars on display, and its not really a criticism, just an observation, there is a perception that there is bias against non-UK specification cars (so I was quite happy one year to see Sam Goodwin's early Roadster on display, because not only was it in stunning condition, its also possibly one of the oldest rhd MX5s in the world, outside of a Mazda museum). Real owners cars, or historically important cars, would be nice as well, not just garage queens. Other clubs are happy to have warts an all on display.

In the end, does it really matter who's car is on display? I suspect it will have 4 wheels, maybe, and will be roofless. And Japanese.

sorry wrong..

2012 Club stand was;

MK2 best kept winner from 2012 Spring and National Rally, yep, hands up I'm also a commitee member and Eastern, I was a last minute stand in as well I believe if I recall correctly,

2011, 2012, (I think) MK1 National concours winner, not a committee member, also eastern, sorry, we've always been good at comps

MK3 replica of the wotsits name green race car, belonging to the people who's names I can't recall, (sorry ) neither commitee or eastern

I stand corrected for one car not being from your area Martin.

Still non the wiser though as to what we can expect to see on display this year or is it a big secret Sealed

its not a secret, maybe but just a case of the one chap with the responsbility for pulling it all together hasn't seen fit to publish the information. Perhaps he doesn't attach a great deal of significance to it.. Do we usually make a big deal of that before the event ? Perhaps he wants it to be a surprise ? perhaps he has a really cunning plan to win the stand of the show and doesn't want to give away how we are planning to do that ?  Now I've found my feet after the uber busy AGM /AC weekend  last week I'll ask him...

I was pleased to be invited to put my MK2 RS on the MX5OC stand. It's not concours, but has been returned to original specification and is a very limited edition model, so hopefully will be of some interest to both MX-5 owners and non-owners alike. So the Club stand won't be exactly "same old, same old", although it will necessarily have MX-5s on display!

Have a great time at the NEC Ken, I am sure your Mk2 will be as good as Concours.

Do we know what other MX-5's are on the stand, it does appear to be a well guarded secret till now ?

Not really that secret, the front page of this very website mentioned one of the other MX-5s in the Twitter feed some while ago,

So, currently we have;

MK2 silver RS belonging to Ken

MK1 black Project Merlot

I can also confirm we have a loan of the Roddison MK3 "Le Mans" race car as seen at Blyton and a nice, possibly unique MK1 belonging to a local Club member, again on loan for the weekend. You'll have to come along for more details on that one..

And of course the opportunity to buy Club Official merchandise and hopefully once more we will encourage lots of Classic Car fans that the MX-5 is the only real practical/future classic they need, whether they want to polish it, drive it, take it apart and restore it, take it on a track day, or even race it.. I think we just about have all those bases covered this year now..Smile
