2nd August was the date for the first event Phil and I had organised for the club, set in the wonderful setting of Helmingham Hall for their annual Festival of Classic and Sports cars. Would it rain, would anyone turn up?? Luckily the weather gods were smiling on us and it was brilliant sunshine all day. And 24 MX-5’s on the day was far better than we’d expected for the club stand.
We’d all met early at Beacon Hill services ready for a convoy through the very picturesque scenery of Suffolk, with people waving as we drove through a couple of the villages. The sight of all those MX-5’s in the rear view mirror was fantastic. Once parked up on the stand we were free to look at the 700 other classic cars or the Hall and its grade 1 listed gardens, or watch the cars take their turn in a sprint up the Halls drive.
One thought we’d had was a collection for the charity that was benefitting from the show, as I’d donated £20 when paying for the tickets. We hadn’t guessed how generous the club members were as we handed £157 over to EACH (East Anglian Children’s Hospices) on the day.
We’ve booked the stand for next year so we can do it all again then. Fingers crossed the weather will be just as good.
