Lakes weekend – 16/18 September 2016
On Friday 8 cars from the region converged on the Crown Inn, Coniston and we all got together that evening for a meal. Saturday morning, glorious weather, 10am we headed north together from Conistion to become members of the semi-official MX-5 Lincs OC ‘MG Branch’ (as in Mountain Goat) of the Club. Turning west we negotiated narrow roads and past lots of very fit looking runners warming up for a race. Then it was onward and upward over Wrynose Pass to warm us up for the main event of Hardknott Pass. This was a mixture of challenging MX-5 driving, incredible scenery, glorious sunshine and at times sheer terror for some passengers. Finally we descended into Eskdale for a coffee stop at Dalegarth Station where some decided to drive to Ravenglass for a return trip on the railway, (note for future – bring cushion). Others visited Muncaster Castle to be treated to a bird of prey display.
Saturday evening Dennis managed to get us booked into Sara’s Indian and we had a great evening. Sunday morning we set of towards home through the spectacular Yorkshire Dales, again blessed with glorious weather to a coffee shop at The Station Inn, Ribblehead.
From this point the group split up for the final part of the MG Club initiation, heading along the B6255 towards Hawes. A couple of cars stopped at Wensleydale Dairy for a light lunch and the cheese shop before gaining full membership of the MX-5 Lincs Region MG Club by going north over the top of Butter Tubs. Then it was east through Swaldale, up over Bellerby Moor and south towards home from Leyburn.
Thanks to Gaby and Tony for the hard work and planning which made the weekend such a success.
