Twas the night before Christmas (ish) and all was silent…except for the roar of Japanese engines set in small, prolific, iconic roadsters, making their way on the “short hop” scenic route from Sarn to Swansea.

Yes it’s here, the 2016 South Wales MX5 Owners club Christmas run. The one we’ve been waiting for, the one we have been putting our pennies in the savings tin all year for. It’s the end of year finale and a closure on what has been a very eventful and enjoyable 2016 MX5 owners calendar for us.

I am pleased to provide you with the very first new format write up of its kind on behalf of the South Wales MX5 owner’s club website.

And what better way to start off the new format with than our Christmas run. With the sun trying its very best to break through on a hazy December Sunday morning over the new Sarn Services area, 20 MX5s of varying marques gathered together with many of their owners donned in apparel that was appropriate to the festive season and neigh was there a hairdresser to be seen.

The run itself was organised by Andrew and Julie started very well, with tight grouping and clear roads befitting the time of day and avoiding the Christmas shoppers. Some members had chosen to bypass the run and go straight for the Village Inn’s jugular in Swansea, so for the hardened 20 this was run closure for 2016.

The sun eventually broke through the mist as we meandered down through a series of A & B roads to Porthcawl and then progressed on to Port Talbot and there after onto our meeting point at the Village Inn Swansea. As we gathered our thoughts, the events of the journey were considered and it soon became evident that a few group members had been involved in small altercations with a couple of groups of cyclists on the way. Notes were compared!

Upon entry to the Village in car park a couple of us noticed TV celeb Brendan from the hit show “Coach Trip” (didn’t know he liked MX5s).

The Village in Management team had made a great effort with our private suite and barring the sprouts I feel that everyone enjoyed a wonderful Christmas dinner. Final end of year speeches were delivered to our group from the Co-ordinators Andrew and Peter and the raffle brought an end to proceedings for another year in the car club.

A very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and the best to everyone in 2017.
