THE DAY WE WERE ALL BOWLED OVER Another successful day with Peaks and Pennines. Twenty Two cars set off from The Stockyard, Hellaby. Cloudy but no rain, heading towards Blythe, Ranskill, Mattersey .Having split from the front group we found ourselves with a new leader, who was doing a great job. We Passed The Swan Pub, feeling very sad to see it all boarded up. All the smells of the country side wafting in the car, some good, some lovely, (new mown grass ) Not much traffic on the roads keeping us all together, having said that we did lose the front group in Edwinstowe not too far from our destination, Rob put the Sat Nav to good use, took the lead, so we soon reached Sherwood Forest Steam Railway.
Fun for one or two that had a go on the Zip Wire, (for KIDS really) a toilet break, a drink, and then for some a trip down the short track on the Model Steam Railway.
After a very enjoyable time we got back in our cars heading for our Bowling Competition at Chesterfield.
Once again we saw lovely villages, past the Major Oak, then Budby, Turning left at the Old School House now a cafe, on the Welbeck Estate.
We seemed to have lost a few cars, so once again Rob took the lead, no need for a Sat Nav as he new the area.
Every body had fun( I HOPE ) it was a great afternoon, scores may not have been what they would have wanted, but it was all taken in good humour.
The Trophy’s had been donated by Jayne and Rob in memory of our dear friend Gary Crookes, whose legacy was our high quality area newsletter insert, now passed on to Mike (Humpty) Hall who is doing a brilliant job.
The winners were
1st MARIE 238 2nd ELAINE 177
1st TREVOR (Walker) 276 2nd ROB 223
The strongest man went to MAC and LESLEY was luck last.
The day came to an end with a meal for all at The Three Cottages Pub in Chesterfield, where the trophy’s were given to the winners by Christine (Gary’s wife )
It was a GREAT day, our thanks to Burton & Lesley for organising the run and the meal, and to Trevor for organising the bowling.
We have a wonderful club, a good time was had by all.
