SOLENT AREA – 2nd June 2024: A drive & visit to Braemore House, Near Fordingbridge @ Braemore House
Jun 2 all-day

Dear all,

Christine & Doug Phillips, have kindly organised a visit to Braemore House & Gardens, near Fordingbrindge, so it will be a nice drive in our MX-5’s via the New Forest.

Doug states:

The Drive will start from Rownhams Services, M27 Westbound and we will follow the M27 and exit at junction 1, via the 3rd exit from roundabout, signed to Fordingbridge.

Continue across the New Forest following signs to Fordingbridge.

Once across the River Avon bridge, take the 2nd exit at mini roundabout, look out for signs
towards Salisbury.

After about 0.75 miles merge with A338 towards Salisbury. After about 1.7 miles in Breamore village turn left (turning after Cricketers pub on right) and follow signs
to Breamore House.

NB: Keep following the House signs, the lane gets to be very narrow with
poor visibility and few passing places. When the first junction is reached ignore the car park
sign’s and turn first right with railed fence to your right. After approx 0.5 miles furthe, pass through
Breamore House gates and we will park nicely on the side of the drive.

The Attraction:
Breamore House is an Elizabethan manor house completed in 1583, which has changed very
little over the following centuries. The house is currently the home of the Hulse family.
Guided tours of the house allow us the view period furniture and fittings, and the art
collection. It also provides an insight into the rather chaotic interior compared with the very
regular exterior. The visit also includes access to the countryside museum with displays of
post war village life, and an interesting collection of farm machinery.

Other attraction on the site includes the Saxon church of St Mary’s dating back to the 10th
Century and for the energetic amongst us a 1 mile walk to the Miz-maze, which was probably created for
miscreant monks to perform penance, by crawling along its flinty path.

There is a café on site, but it is of the tea, cake, and sandwiches kind, so not a place to dine.
So, some people may wish to take a picnic.

Cost;
As long as there are 12 or more people attending the cost is £9.50 per head and includes a
guided tour of the house and access to the country life museum, access to the church is free,
but as this will be Sunday drive, please enter respectfully.

Please make payments to Mal’s PayPal Account: malrowland@gmail.com Mal will then pay Breamore Estate in one online payment and we will be all set

NB: Don’t forget to select the “Paying Family or Freinds” box to avoid any unecessary charges!

SOLENT & Neighbouring Areas – Thruxton Historic 2024 @ Thruxton Circuit
Jun 23 all-day

Hi Everyone,

Since arranging the Solent & Neighbouring Areas 30th Anniversary event in 2019, we have since been invited back each year and this year we are returning again to the  “Thruxton Historic Event 2024”  in June, to enjoy a fabulous day out and celebrate 35 years of the brilliant MX-5. Hopefully, in stunning sunshine, as per 2023, where we sat on the bank, under the Solent Area Gazebo, overlooking the race circuit

This year, we are only going attending on the Sunday, as past experience has shown that this to be the most popular day for our members. The only downside is, we may not get the same parking area on the bank that we had last year with close proximnity to facilities, such as toilets, tunnel to inner track area and food caterers etc. However, Iain Fleming, is kindly working on this for us with the Thruxton Team and will udpate us very soon on this issue. Once we know the outcome, we will update this post with the necessary infomation.
