Snow prevents Tornado at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

A run to see The Tornado on March 11th may be possible, I will send an email out and put a post on the forum.

From the NYMR’s website

An amber warning and snow as far as the eye can see has stopped the much anticipated arrival of Tornado at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) this weekend (Saturday 3rd March – Sunday 4thMarch).

Services scheduled on 6, 7, 8, 10 & 11 March are expected to go ahead, and NYMR is now running additional Tornado services on Friday 9th March at 9:30am and 12:40pm to enable guests that have previously booked for this weekend to move their date so they can get those eye catching shots and board the very popular, and extremely fast, locomotive.

Chris Price, General Manager “The safety of our passengers and staff is paramount and despite the tremendous efforts to ensure this event went ahead, concern over customers travelling to departure stations must come first.”

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a not for profit charitable trust providing memorable experiences for visitors and fulfilment for volunteers and staff through the operation of Britain’s most popular heritage railway between Whitby and Pickering.

60163 Tornado storms into the NYMR: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10 & 11 March 2018

Legendary locomotive, 60163 Tornado, will storm in the the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in March of 2018. This stunning Peppercorn A1 Pacific class engine has been on a whirlwind of tours since she began moving under her own steam in 2008 and this year talent spotting teams were quick to select her to be used in the latest film about a friendly bear from deepest darkest Peru, ‘Paddington Bear 2’!

Learn more about Tornado!

Our March run was to be a week earlier than normal, as March 11th is Mothering Sunday, it is to the North Yorkshire Village of Goathland (Aidensfield in Heartbeat) where we can watch Tornado  as they put it ‘storm through’  before having a (soft) drink in the Aidensfield Arms, please note Scripps Garage across the road is closed petrol on Sundays. No speeding please, the village has a Sergeant and 3 bobbies !

The railway will publish a schedule shortly, these are the timings I anticipate, I propose we arrive in Goathland at 12:40, watch the engine pass through at 1pm, have a look around the village or go on a short run, then view for as second time at 2:40pm Tornado approx timings

The starting point is The Stockyard Hellaby, meeting for a cuppa at 9:30, leaving at 10:00, come earlier if you are having a value for money full breakfast.

As we are in the area for a joint run with Northamptonshire Area in April,  I will select different routes out and home to the ones proposed in April
