Steve & Jean have a midweek run meeting at Birch Services M62 Eastbound, 10.00am for a 10.30 start.

This is a midweek scenic run over Saddleworth Moor with lunch at Hollingworth Lake and  a voluntary walk of approximately 2 miles. The run begins with a steady climb to the summit of the M62, the highest motorway point in England. Exiting at Junction 22, we pass Windy Hill Transmitter on the right and drive through Edenshaw, Delph and Uppermill. Then over Saddleworth Moor through Eltham, Marsden and stop at Grandpa Greens in Diggle, for a comfort/coffee break. This  is situated at the side of the Huddersfield Canal and the southern end of Standedge Tunnel, the longest canal tunnel in the UK.

We then drive over Moss Moor, crossing the Scammoden Bridge over the M62 with Scammoden Reservoir to the right. We drop down to Rippoden and take the A58 over Rishworth Moor to Littleborough and picturesque Hollingworth Lake: stopping here for lunch. You can make your own choice of eateries, fish & chip restaurant, cafe, pub or even a picnic at the side of the lake.

After lunch, you may like to join us on a 2 mile flat walk on good paths around the lake offering excellent country views. There’s a coffee shop and toilets half-way if required. Leaving the lake, it’s a short drive to Junction 21 on the M62 for your onward journey home. The run is 60 miles and should be completed by 3.30 pm. I will have spares if you have problems printing off. Looking forward to seeing you, we hope you can make it.
