Cross Hands Car Park, Old Sodbury to the Apache Café at the Museum of Army Flying, adjoining Middle Wallop Airfield SO20 8DY – Saturday 16th June 2018 

The route is mainly A and B roads with some unclassified and some dual carriageway. After skirting Chippenham and Melksham it is open countryside virtually throughout. 

The Apache Café for breakfast is on the first floor of the Museum complex. It can seat 70 inside and 24 on bench seating on a large open veranda overlooking part of the airfield. Serving all day breakfasts, lunches, etc., open 09:00 till 16:00 it can be accessed with or without entry to the museum. 

The museum has 32 exhibits and much additional information in the galleries, from pre First World War to recent activities in Iraq and Afghanistan. Allow 2-4 hours depending on level of interest. The museum opens at 10:00. 

Entry – Adult £12. Concessions £9. A small discount of £1 pp is available for pre-booked groups of 10 or more. 

Free parking at the complex – 60+ on tarmac. Dedicated car parking is available on grass provided booked in advance. 

The Airfield is a British Army base hosting 2 and 7 Regiments Army Air Corps under the umbrella of the Army Aviation Centre. It is the main training base for Army pilots and ground crew, flying Squirrel, Lynx and Apache helicopters, but there is little activity at weekends.
